RecPlex Triathlon Training, Run Training, and Fitness Classes
Coach Ken Johnson offers the following schedule of training at the RecPlex, Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. The RecPlex is home to the Chicagoland Danskin Women's Triathlon and the Pleasant Prairie Triathlon and Pleasant Prairie Junior Triathlon.
Training sessions are open to members and non-members of the LakeView RecPlex. For more information, contact RecPlex Guest Services at 262-947-0437. All sessions are held at the RecPlex complex unless otherwise noted.

Pleasant Prairie Triathlon Training Program (Multi-Level)
This 10-week course will prepare new & experienced triathletes for the Pleasant Prairie Sprint and International Triathlon, and Duathlon, held on Sun, June 24 at the RecPlex. Class includes Conquer the Open Water Clinic on June 10; $35 if taken separately.
Participants receive:
- Weekly group workouts in a fun and supportive environment with race participants
- Written training plans and informative lectures
- Coaching by USA Triathlon certified coach Ken Johnson, triathlon coach at the RecPlex since 2004
- Train on the actual race course: open water swims in Lake Andrea, rides on the bike course, and runs on the run course
- Non-members of the RecPlex will have full access to RecPlex and Lake Andrea facilities during class sessions

No class April 22 due to Indoor/Outdoor Triathlon

Pleasant Prairie Triathlon Training Drop-In
Available to triathletes who want to join class workouts. No training materials are provided.
TRI Training drop-in is $10 for RecPlex members, $15 for non-members. You must register at the Guest Services Desk at the RecPlex in advance and bring your receipt to the workout. You cannot sign up at the workout itself.
Workout Dates:
- April 29 – Swim workout, RecPlex Aqua Arena.
- May 6 – Bike ride of course. Meet at the south end of the RecPlex parking lot (near the Baby U building), ride will start no later than 7:15am.
- May 13 – Swim + Run Brick, RecPlex Aqua Arena & Prairie Springs Running Path.
- May 20 – Open Water Swimming and Hill Run at Silver Lake.
- May 27 – Brick: Bike course and Run course.
- June 3 – Brick: Bike course and Run course.
- June 10 – No drop-in.
- June 17 – RACE SIMULATION at Lake Andrea Beach.
Danskin Triathlon Training Program (Multi-Level)
Note: for 2012 the Trek Women's Triathlon Series has been merged with the Danskin Women's Triathlon Series. There will only be one race in Pleasant Prairie this year, the Danskin Women's Triathlon on August 25.

Ladies - join the fastest growing segment of new triathletes, that of women. Our training classes will prepare you for the Danskin Triathlon, held at the RecPlex in Pleasant Prairie, WI on August 26, 2012. Danskin Tri Prep Workshop
Half-day race preparation training sessions for the Chicagoland Danskin Triathlon. Training is held on the race course at the RecPlex in Pleasant Prairie, WI. Participants receive:

- Guided bike rides of the bike course
- Runs on the run course
- Race venue and transition overview
- Race simulation
- Bike course cue sheet
- Reusable Transition Checklist

- Conquer the Open Water Clinic - Beginner
- This clinic will help beginner and intermediate swimmers to improve their triathlon open water swimming to prepare for the Trek, Danskin, Pleasant Prairie or other triathlons. Topics include open water swim equipment, beach swim starts, sight breathing to stay on course, and a description of the
Lake Andrea swim courses, and transition area set-up.
You will practice your open water swimming in Lake Andrea individually then in a simulated triathlon group start. You will also learn treading water and other contingency strategies to use to help you complete the triathlon swim safely and confidently. Wetsuits are optional but encouraged.

Registration - Conquer the Open Water Clinic - Intermediate/Advanced
- This clinic will help intermediate and advanced swimmers to improve their triathlon open water swimming to prepare for the Trek, Danskin, Pleasant Prairie or other triathlon events. In addition to the topics covered in the Beginner swim clinic, you will practice drafting, pacing and other more advanced open water swim techniques. You will practice your open water swimming in Lake Andrea. Wetsuits are optional but encouraged.

Conquer the Open Water Swim Workouts
Join Coach Ken Johnson, USA Triathlon Coach for open water swimming at Lake Andrea. Each session will include triathlon open water skills followed by a swim workout. Each session will include two cross-lake swims.

I participated in Coach Ken's three week Open Water Swim session. I signed up for the Danskin, my first triathlon, and I was nervous about the swim portion of the race. I saw this class as an opportunity to swim in the same lake as the triathlon. However, I got so much more out of the class. Not only did Ken provided useful tips and
exercises related to open water triathlon swimming in general, but he provided swimming, biking and running information specifically related to the Danskin. His years of experience with the Trek and Danskin events were a real added bonus to the class. I would not hesitate to participate in another of his training sessions no matter what triathlon I decide to do next!

- Lake Andrea Swim Training - Cross Lake Swims
- The swim start will be at the south end of Lake Andrea Beach and will go across the lake finishing at the Triathlon swim out on the east side of the lake by the Aqua Arena. Lifeguards will be on duty in kayaks following the swimmers across the lake.

- Triathlon Cycling Program
- A spin class for triathletes, or those considering signing up for a triathlon in 2012. This class will focus on specific cycling skill sets needed for optimal performance in the bike leg of Sprint and International distance triathlons. These include fixed interval sets, ladders, superspins, standing sprints, tempo sets, one-leg spinning drills, and recovery.
